Record Store Day began in 2007, when a group of vinyl store owners in the US came together to celebrate their unique culture. This became an annual event on 19th April 2008, and has been growing in size and reputation ever since.
Today, Record Store Day is a day for over 270 shops across the UK to come together and honour the role of each person involved in the record store process, from the artists and labels to the staff and the customers.
When is Record Store Day 2025?
This year, Record Store Day is taking place on Saturday 12th April 2025.
Where can I find Edinburgh record stores?
Avalanche Records is an independent record store located in Waverley Market. Whether you’re a Record Store Day first-timer or you’re queuing up every year, Avalanche Records is an unmissable stop to find your dream vinyl. With a huge range of music from AC/DC to Young Fathers along with exclusive Record Store Day releases, there’s something for every taste at Avalanche Records.
This year, Avalanche Records is opening from 8am so early-bird shoppers can choose their records early. Queuing early isn’t advised, but any early arrivals should head to the Waverley Bridge entrance to the mall. Sam Fender is the 2025 Record Store Day ambassador, releasing a six-track twelve-inch EP including two brand new songs and fan favourites. Charli XCX fans can look out for a limited edition seven-inch version of “Guess” featuring Billie Eilish, along with a reissue of her 2017 mixtape “Number 1 Angel”.
Taylor Swift fans are in luck – expect a seven-inch white vinyl of her collaboration with Post Malone, “Fortnight”, including the first time the “Fortnight [BLOND:ISH] Remix” will appear on vinyl. The Cure, Gracie Abrams, and Oasis will also feature on the day, with Oasis releasing a “Time Flies” set for the first time on vinyl since it was first pressed in 2010. This set includes four coloured LPs and features the entire Oasis singles collection from 1994-2009, and with only 15,000 copies released worldwide, this will be a popular request.
Avalanche Records will have limited quantities of these releases, so get down early to bag your favourite. View the full Record Store Day list of releases over on the RSD website.
Once you’ve found your purchases, take a minute to look at the merch options they stock in store. From t-shirts to posters along with Avalanche-exclusive pieces, this is the perfect chance to show your support to independent record stores in Edinburgh.
